People often ask me how I stay 'Motivated' to maintain a balanced lifestyle with exercise, food, mindset, daily walks, etc. and the answer is I DON'T!
Motivation is commonly misused in conversation. Discipline is the thing that keeps me on track. Implementing daily habits and sticking to them, even when I'm not in the mood to.
Motivation is when you do something because of the desired reward, whether that be personal satisfaction/reward such as feeling good after a workout or eating well for a period of time (intrinsic motivation) or for a reward such as being paid for doing a job (extrinsic motivation).
Yes, intrinsic motivation is what initially gets us started on a journey to be fitter, healthier and happier however motivation will not be there 100% of the time. Therefore you need to be disciplined.
Discipline is having the ability to stick to your routine and new daily habits even if you don't want to. This will result in you having more consistency than relying on motivation ever will.
Motivation gets us started, discipline keeps us consistent, consistency leads to results, results trigger further intrinsic motivation and we go round all over again...
